The first ever CABL Classic to Benefit Coaches vs Cancer was a huge success thanks to all the players, donors, and volunteers. Together, after adding up offline donations, we raised $3,000 for the American Cancer Society, which is simply amazing. Thank you to everyone for your generosity.

On the field, there were many highlights as well. Just a few of the memorable moments: The Stoneham Sabers captured the title without giving up a run in 3 games. They were led by pitcher Greg Dubela (2-0). Dubela threw 12 innings on the weekend while Sean Perkins (2-0) threw 11 innings for runner-up Save the Ta-Tas as did George Ziegler. Check Your Balls Manager Kevin Leblanc played every position in the Consolation Game, even inducing a ground out from the only batter he faced. Both Will Medina Jr. and Will Medina Sr. (at 51 years young) pitched in the tournament. Will Sr pitched a complete game while not surrendering an earned run.
Thank you to our umpires who donated their time to officiate the tournament, to Bob at World Series Park and Keith at Twi Field for all you’ve done for us this past weekend and this first season, and thank you to my board of directors (Alex Samaras, Nick Bennet, Jim Rooney, Kevin LeBlanc, and Tim Antonellis) for all the work they put in to help bring this tournament across the finish line, and thank you to everyone else for all your help. Also, a special thanks to the Nationals/Thunder team who raised $1,155 as a team.
Mark your calendars for next year’s tournament. We are eyeing Sat 10/1 and Sun 10/2 as the probable weekend to do it all over again.
Thanks again and see you next year.
